BlogCFC by Ray Camden

Ok - I have finally made the move to a ColdFusion 8 server for this blog and installed BLOGCFC by Ray Camden. (Thanks so much Ray - I am looking forward to the new CF8 WACK books) So, my new years resolution is that I will be blogging every day! I am serious this time - and I really mean it. :P

ColdFusion 8 Release Date Announced

Adobe has set the official release date of ColdFusion 8 for July 30th. Now faster than ever, ColdFusion 8 means fewer lines of code and easier fine-tuning. The result is better applications in less time, as well as improved integration across the enterprise.

We predict that with this new version, many developers are going to need training to get up-to-speed on the new features. Highlights of the new release include an improved Server Monitor to fix bugs and bottlenecks before deployment, PDF document and form integration features, plus freedom to create personalized, multimedia-rich applications in Adobe Flex or Ajax.

New ColdFusion 8 Features

Adobe Authorized Training at the ASTD Conference in Atlanta, 2007

The ASTD Conference is quite a circus. Anything and everything you ever wanted and did not really want to know about Training, Development, and eLearning is on display at the conference. Most of the attendees that are stopping by our exhibit space are interested in Adobe Captivate and Acrobat Connect, but I have had a few chances to demo ColdFusion and the new <cfpdfform> features. I have even had a few attendees ask me about the <cfpresenter> tag that generates a Breeze like interactive presentations and also works very nice with Captivate generated swfs. Acrobat Connect is a hot topic here and the Adobe Team has been doing some floor demos as well. Lot's of fun, but my feet are killing me....

Adobe ColdFusion 8 at Adobe Labs

Adobe Systems has now released a preview version of ColdFusion 8 to the Adobe Labs website. Here you can dowload the latest version of ColdFusion and there are some great online videos to get you into the new features fast. Some of the new features listed give you the power to easliy work with Flex to create personalized, multimedia-rich applications and Acrobat form integration. Sounds good to me ....

More on ColdFusion 8 - Scorpio

I spend the lunch hour today in an Adobe Partner Connect eSeminar with Tim Buntel Adobe Sr. Product Marketing Manager for ColdFusion. If you have ever attended a Macromedia/Adobe MAX Conference, then you have probably seen Tim on stage. He would make it BIG in Hollywood if he ever decided to make a career move. After the meeting I checked out his personal blog site and found an outrageously funny video clip, created by Nectarine Animation. You gotta see this, ... it is worth the time for sure.

It has been over two years since the launch of ColdFusion MX7 and this is the first version of ColdFusion that officially ships under the Adobe banner. So, that makes for a good bit of excitement surrounding this version release. There are over 45 cities hosting ColdFusion 8 events in the month of May, with over 3,000 developers participating.

Most of the session this afternoon was spend covering some the new features that I have already discovered, but there were some really nice features that Tim showed us that are going to make life in the CF fast lane much easier. The bottom line is that Scorpio has the strategic advantage of being built by design to complement other Adobe technologies. I would love to tell you more, but according to the Adobe Partner Non-Disclosure agreement, ... I would have to kill ya. Anyway, you can find out way more by checking out Ben Forta's blogsite, or visiting your local Adobe ColdFusion User Group meeting when either Tim or Ben is in town for the Scorpio Summer Tour.

Speaking of ColdFusion, ... I just published a new Adobe Authorized Training Course to our corporate web site today - Flex 2 - Integration with ColdFusion MX7 - for any Flexers out there that may be interested in a two day hands-on session that will teach you how to connect your Flex App to ColdFusion.

Scorpio on the Road!

If you have not yet heard the news, ... Scorpio, is the new codename for the highly anticipated ColdFusion 8 edition. Building on top of the powerful platform introduced in ColdFusion MX, and the solid features of ColdFusion MX 7, the Scorpio development has been adding even more new features for developers in this new version. While the official ColdFusion 8 edition release is scheduled for mid-summer, you don’t have to wait until then to see it for yourself. On a cross-country tour, Adobe’s Ben Forta or Tim Buntel will be coming to a ColdFusion User Group near you to demo lots of new Scorpio features.

See Scorpio in action and first-hand!Check the listof all ColdFusion Road Show locations, as well as other ColdFusion event locations today. Make plans now to join the User Group meeting in your area for sure.
